Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica’s Ultimate Resort Community, Chooses ClimateTrade as Carbon Neutrality Partner

Peninsula Papagayo

Partnership will enable guests to calculate and offset their carbon emissions from travel, contribute to certified climate regeneration projects

Sept. 27, 2022, MIAMIClimateTrade, the leading blockchain-based climate marketplace, today announced that it has partnered with Peninsula Papagayo, an exclusive residential community and home to Four Seasons and Andaz Resorts. ClimateTrade will support the resort’s carbon neutrality efforts by providing carbon calculation and offsetting services for its visitors.

Through the agreement, ClimateTrade will calculate the CO2 emissions associated with travel to and from Peninsula Papagayo and provide the platform for guests to offset their emissions by contributing to Costa Rica’s national reforestation program.

The carbon calculation will be done by ClimateTrade’s automated calculator, which is customized to adjust for different modes of transportation. Whether visitors travel to Peninsula Papagayo by commercial flights and cars, or by yachts and private jets, the calculator will produce an accurate number, aligned with the methodology of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

After the carbon footprint is calculated, operators at the resort will then communicate the results to guests through a link to the ClimateTrade Whitelabel landing page. From there, guests can choose to offset their emissions by donating to the national reforestation program managed by Costa Rica’s Forestry Financing Fund (FONAFIFO).

Upon completing a transaction, all of which are conducted through ClimateTrade’s blockchain platform, users will receive via email an offsetting certificate containing a traceable blockchain key. A unique offering from ClimateTrade, this certificate ensures transparency and reliability, giving visitors to the peninsula the comfort of knowing that their money is generating a positive local impact.

“It’s wonderful to see luxury destinations like Peninsula Papagayo take the lead in educating travelers about their carbon footprint and encouraging them to act to offset it by contributing to a local project,” said Francisco Benedito, CEO of ClimateTrade. “ClimateTrade is proud to support partners in the tourism sector in their decarbonization efforts.”
